My father, a 20 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, married my mother, a French citizen who immigrated from Algiers, Algeria after World War II. I was born on a Marine Corps Base in Albany, Georgia and then spent 4 years at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina before moving to Bowie, Maryland where I was raised. I joined the Marine Corps, 35 years to the day after my father and spent four years serving my country and seeing the world. With the exception of my wife and the birth of my three children, there has been no other event that has shaped my life more than the Marine Corps, with respect to my resolve, determination, and can do attitude.
After serving my country, I returned to Maryland where I attended Anne Arundel Community College and worked in the concrete construction industry. In 1987, after a few years of working in the industry, I established my own small business, James J. Moran Construction. In 1991, I chose to make decorative concrete the sole focus of my business and formed Increte of Maryland, Inc., where I continue my role as company president. In 2007, I founded a second business, Mid-Atlantic Pigments, LLC, which supplies color used in concrete construction. Both businesses are located in Crofton, Maryland, and have been for the last 23 years.
My family and I spent many weekends on the shore over the years, and like so many residents of Queen Anne’s County, moving here has been a lifelong dream. My children and I enjoyed crabbing and fishing on early summer mornings, surrounded by the natural resources and serenity that we all enjoy to this day. About ten years ago, our dream became a reality. I was able to make Queen Anne’s County our home. I have been married to my lovely wife for 28 years, and together we have three children; Ashley, 26, Kevin, 24, and Michael, 22.
I have dedicated my life to serving my family and community, which has always remained a constant throughout the years. Whether it has been my service in the Marine Corps, coaching football and baseball, serving as president of the boosters, numerous community and church projects, or my time on the EDC and Planning Commission, my life’s journey and experiences has prepared me to serve the citizens of Queen Anne’s County. I look forward to continuing to serve my community and fellow citizens, and to ensuring our quality of life for present and future generations.
